Home to the mighty Victoria Falls and much more natural beauty, explore the best that Zambia has to offer today.
Let the impressive roar of the majestic Victoria Falls that can be heard up to 40 km (25 miles) away, welcome you to an awe inspiring spectacular also known as the “Smoke That Thunders.” The might of the Zambezi River forms the largest sheet of falling water in the world spanning 1,708m (5,604ft) in width and is accessible via Livingstone. One of the most water rich countries in Africa, Zambia is home to many rivers, the more well-known being Lake Tanganyika the longest lake in the world and Lake Kariba which is rapidly becoming known as the ‘French Riviera’ of Zambia. The Kafue and Luangwa Rivers run through South Luangwa and Kafue two of the finest game parks in the world, and teeming with hippos and crocodiles, but there are many other National Parks and all offer great opportunities for observing Africa’s plains game.
Mainly in the Vic Falls area, the range of adventure and extreme sports activities available has been attracting tourists from all over the world each year. Bunging jumping and freefalling for 110m from the Vic Falls Bridge, abseiling down a sheer rock face overlooking the Bakota Gorge, river rafting down the wild and mighty Zambezi River, breath-taking helicopter and microlights flights over the Victoria Falls, there is enough to fuel any adrenalin seeker.
Zambia experiences 3 seasons: May-August is cool and dry, September-November is hot and dry and it is warm and wet from December-April.
The people of Zambia are considered to be one of the most welcoming and friendly nations and is made up of a colourful mix of people, traditions and cultures. There is a conscious effort to preserve traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. The open ceremonies where visitors are invited are colourful and magnificent events with much symbolism in their dancing and drumming.
Even though Zambia is considered a yellow fever risk area, a yellow fever certificate is not mandatory when entering Zambia, unless arriving from a country that is considered ‘at risk’. You will however definitely need a yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter your next port-of-call when you depart Zambia.
Hepatitis A and Typhoid are both highly recommended by international organisation such as the CDC, WHO and IAMAT.
Toka Leya contains twelve spaciously appointed luxury safari tents, each with expansive views of the Zambezi River beyond. Located atop the banks of the Upper Zambezi River, guests can enjoy easy – and complimentary – access to Victoria Falls. Choose from the wealth of river-based activities on offer, from white water rafting to afternoon river cruises and fishing expeditions. Because the lodge is in the Mosi o Tunya National Park, game viewing is plentiful all year round.
Located on the Luangwa River in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, the premium Chinzombo camp is located in open flood plains. Because of this, it offers excellent Big Five game viewing, predator sightings and bird watching opportunities. It’s completely remote, so you’ll catch a boat across the river to get to the camp, making an already exclusive experience just that much more special.
Located on a flood plain in the Kafue National Park, Shumba is only available for six months of the year between June and October when the flood plains dry out. This makes it a highly exclusive camp with a truly dynamic surrounding landscape. Drink in the wide-open spaces and enjoy rare animal interactions including a huge population of tree climbing lions. For something truly unique, take a hot air balloon ride to appreciate the vast grassland from above.
