A country rich in both natural beauty and history, come and see the great natural diversity that Zimbabwe has to offer.
Zimbabwe – A world of wonders!
Northwest and close to the Kalahari desert, lies Hwange National Park, at around 14,600 sq km in area between Bulawayo and the Victoria Falls this is the largest natural reserve in Zimbabwe. For the mere fact that all of Zimbabwe’s specially protected animals are to be found in Hwange make it a very special park –one of the larger surviving groups of Cape wild dogs in Africa today can be found there and it is the only protected area one where there are small numbers of gemsbok and brown hyena.
Mana Pools National Park a wildlife conservation area spanning 219,6000 ha and declared UNESCO World Heritage site is located in the north. Mana means 4 in Shona and refers to the 4 large permanent pools that have formed over time and has the biggest concentration of hippos, crocodiles and large dry season populations of elephant, Cape buffalo and zebra. Lion, cheetah, leopard can also be found in the area.
Apart from the impressive Victoria Falls which is part of the Zambezi River and forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia the second most popular landmark in the region is the Victoria Falls Bridge. The 198 metre long bridge connects Livingstone in Zambia and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe – there are historical guided tours detailing the background and construction of the bridge, including a walking tour under the main deck. Fancy yourself a bit of a dare devil? The term ‘taking the plunge’ takes on a whole new meaning when you commit to free falling 111 metres off the Victoria Falls bridge with a simple bungee cord attached to your ankles. Take on the ultimate adrenaline challenge and book your bungee jump off the Vic Falls bridge – the experience will leave you exhilarated that’s for sure.
Zimbabwe enjoys a tropical climate which is moderated by the different altitudes. June is generally the coolest month and October the warmest. The dry season runs from May-mid October and the hot and rainy weather sets in from end October-April.Recommended travel period is from mid-May-August.
Dengue fever is prevalent in Zimbabwe and malaria is also a risk so protection against mosquito bites and malaria tablets are recommended. Hepatitis A, typhoid, rabies and influenza vaccines are also recommended.
Experience some of the finest locations Africa has to offer with the multi-country Big Six Safari that passes through Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa.
Tembo Plains, meaning “Elephant Plains” is built in the thick riverine forest on the edge of the Zambezi River, in the private 128,000 hectare Sapi Reserve, which is just east of Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools National Park.
The Victoria Falls Hotel, popularly known as “the grand old lady of the Falls”, is situated in the Victoria Falls National Park, and is a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World group. It is one of only three IS0-accredited hotels in Zimbabwe. The Edwardian-style five-star hotel combines the charm of the old with the convenience of the new. Set in lush tropical gardens with lily ponds, palm trees and semi-tropical shrubs, it provides the tranquillity and seclusion that many guests seek.
The architect team of Craig Hayman and Hannah Charlton and interior designer Tracy Kelly have created a haven that epitomizes “Barefoot Luxury” at its best. Mpala Jena is located on the white sandy edges of Zimbabwe’s Zambezi River and in the Zambezi National Park. The team sought to combine natural elements using thatched roofs in the main areas and flowing canvas luxury tents for the bedrooms.
Situated in a large private concession in the heart of the Zambezi Valley’s Mana Pools National Park, Wilderness Ruckomechi looks out from the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, gazing out towards Zambia’s evocative escarpment.
Wilderness Little Makalolo lies in one of Hwange’s most ecologically-diverse areas, ensuring both variety and numbers of animals year round.
