Find answers to popular questions
To assist you in planning your safari and understanding things like whether to book and plan your own safari or use a reputable and experienced tour operator like Pace Air Safaris, the most popular safari destinations, best time of the year to travel etc. we have put together some of our guest's most frequently asked questions.
Is there a preferred time of year to experience a safari in Southern Africa?
Even though our summers are hot, they are very dry which makes a summer safari tolerable. However peak season is during winter (May to September) due in part to the cooler temperatures, which makes viewing the abundance of wildlife during this time much easier. Winter temps average a moderate 20 degrees celsius and a warm jacket is required for early morning and evening game drives.
How do we choose a safari lodge and or other accommodation?
Here are some of the factors to consider: location, world-class game viewing potential, camp atmosphere, food quality, variety of activities available and opportunities to relax and rejuvenate in nature etc. Whatever your budget we are able to plan around your requirements. Choose from rustic, secluded lodges and immerse yourself into the bush experience or go big and spoil yourself to stays at ultra luxurious 5 star lodges and tented camps.

Travel insurance is an absolute must and mandatory when booking all safari packages. Please ensure that you have comprehensive travel and medical insurance.
Are visas required for Africa?
Most African countries require an entry Visa. These can however be arranged on arrival. Please ensure you have adequate free space in your passport for such Visas. Content
Can children travel to Africa?
Children are always welcome. We will however clarify with you all the lodge requirements for children under the age of 12. For example this may require a sole use game viewing vehicle. Please be aware that children under the age of 18 will be required to carry a certified birth certificate.
What vaccinations do I need?
It is advised that you contact a medical professional in your country of origin. Ensure that you list all of the countries that you will be travelling to and they will give you professional advice.
What should I pack?
Pack smart and bring layers. Lightweight, comfortable, casual, neutral coloured clothing and binoculars are recommended for safaris, as well as comfortable walking shoes.
How much should I tip?
You will come across many situations that may require tipping. These could be tipping the drivers of your transfers, boat captains and their crew, your activity guides and their assistants, concierges & porters who either take you and your luggage to your room, carry or take care of your personal belongings during an activity etc. You will need to useÂ
your discretion when deciding who and how much to tip, depending on the service provided. A US$1 tip would be welcomed and appreciated by a porter but he/she would also not be surprised at a $5 tip if he/she was particularly polite or helpful. The duration of time spent with a member of staff will also determine how much to tip e.g. a driver who is transferring you a short distance from a hotel to an activity generally wouldn’t expect a tip, but if you are staying in a safari camp and have the same safari guide, every day for 3 days then tipping them would be recommended, if they have been good to you. Walking or professional guides may appreciate a bit more than the suggested baseline. It’s not an exact science and it’s not mandatory but at your discretion.
How long should I stay?
Minimum stay of 5 nights, but our ideal recommendation is 10 nights on actual safari which will easily allow you stays at two different lodges. You can add on a few days to shop exclusive luxury brands at a very favourable exchange rate and take in the cool and vibrant Cape Town scene. Steeped in history and offering spectacular scenery and views, this gastronomic haven of award-winning restaurants and top notch wines will awaken your tastebuds and leave you wanting more.
