


Mana Pools National Park a wildlife conservation area spanning 219,6000 ha and declared UNESCO World Heritage site is located in the north. Mana means 4 in Shona and refers to the 4 large permanent pools that have formed over time and has the biggest concentration of hippos, crocodiles and large dry season populations of elephant, Cape buffalo and zebra. Lion, cheetah, leopard can also be found in the area.
Apart from the impressive Victoria Falls which is part of the Zambezi River and forms the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia the second most popular landmark in the region is the Victoria Falls Bridge. The 198 metre long bridge connects Livingstone in Zambia and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe – there are historical guided tours detailing the background and construction of the bridge, including a walking tour under the main deck. Fancy yourself a bit of a dare devil? The term ‘taking the plunge’ takes on a whole new meaning when you commit to free falling 111 metres off the Victoria Falls bridge with a simple bungee cord attached to your ankles. Zimbabwe enjoys a tropical climate which is moderated by the different altitudes. June is generally the coolest month and October the warmest. The dry season runs from May-mid October and the hot and rainy weather sets in from end October-April.Recommended travel period is from mid-May-August.
Dengue fever is prevalent in Zimbabwe and malaria is also a risk so protection against mosquito bites and malaria tablets are recommended. Hepatitis A, typhoid, rabies and influenza vaccines are also recommended.
